Ash builds the most fertile ground on earth.

Tephryte hosts open source tools for communities, free. Pick what your group needs, claim a subdomain, invite your people. You keep the data, the keys, and the right to walk away with both.

0.40 m Ash · graded fall

From nothing to running in about four minutes.

The whole thing is three decisions and a link. Nobody asks what your group is for, and nobody checks how many of you there are.

Matrix for chat, Forgejo for code, Nextcloud for files, and 38 more. Every one is software you could install yourself on a rented box tomorrow.

Live on HTTPS in under a minute

Your group runs at yourgroup.tephryte.com with a certificate that renews itself. Point your own domain at it whenever you're ready.

0.70 mInvite your people

Send one link

You decide who joins and who moderates. Tephryte never emails your members, never counts them for billing, and never sees the rooms they're in.

1.20 m Lapilli · clast-supported

Forty-one tools. All of them free to run.

Every tool runs the upstream release, unmodified. We publish the container digest we deployed, so you can check that claim rather than take it.

Six articles. We can't change them on our own.

Every amendment goes to a member vote. The proposal is public, the debate is public, and the tally is public before it takes effect.

  1. Free stays free

Hosting a community tool costs nothing. No seat count, no trial clock, and no feature held back for a tier that doesn't exist.

  2. The data is yours

One click exports everything in the tool's own format, with no proprietary wrapper to unpick. We delete our copy 30 days after you leave.

  3. Nothing is sold

No advertising, no member profiling, no third-party scripts. This page loads nothing from outside tephryte.com and sets no cookies — open your network tab and count.

  4. The money is members' money

Recurring donations, plus a paid tier for organisations that have a budget. No venture capital, no acquisition, no exit. See 6.10 m.

  5. We run what you run

Tephryte's own stack is AGPL and public, down to the deploy scripts. Audit it, fork it, or run your own Tephryte — we'll help you do the last one.

  6. Leaving is a feature

If we ever break an article, take your container and your volume and go. The migration script ships beside the promise, and it's tested every release.

Where the money goes.

Published every quarter, down to the invoice. The 2025 accounts were audited by an external firm and the full report is on this site.

Spending — 2025 €1.42M

  • Servers and bandwidth 54%
  • Salaries — six people 31%
  • Legal and audit 8%
  • Association overhead 7%

Income — 2025 €1.51M

  • Recurring donations 61%
  • Organisation tier 37%
  • Public grants 2%
  • Advertising 0%
  • Venture capital 0%

The €90,000 difference sits in a reserve fund. At today's cost, it keeps every hosted tool running for eight months with no income at all.

12.00 m Basalt · bedrock End of core

Put your community on ground you don't rent.

Deploying takes about four minutes. Leaving takes about one. We'd rather you had both than only the first.
